Shoichi Kamisuzuki was born in 1959 in Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. He began painting horses in 1976 and has devoted nearly five decades to the subject. In 1987, he relocated to Nasu, Tochigi.

In 1986, he received the Excellence Award at the Horse Painting Exhibition organized by the Japan Racing Association (JRA), and from 1987 to 1993 he received additional awards.

In 2004, he held solo exhibitions at Flusso Gallery (SoHo, New York) and Caelum Gallery (Chelsea, New York), and received the Grand Prize at the Nasu International Biennale. In 2014, he presented a horse painting exhibition at The Nippon Gallery (New York).

In 2015 and 2016, commissioned by the JRA, he created official portraits of the Hall of Fame horses Orfevre and Gentildonna. These works are permanently displayed at the JRA Racing Museum Memorial Hall (Hall of Fame).

In 2018, he exhibited at the REVEAL International Contemporary Art Fair in Saratoga. Since 2019, he has continued to present exhibitions primarily in Japan, expanding his work to portraiture and landscapes.

His works were featured in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama The Royal Family (aired October–December 2025), where he was credited for art cooperation.
