Michiko Arikawa

1952: Born in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture

1972: Resigned from a life insurance company upon marriage and became a full-time homemaker

2000: After her children grew up, she began Sakiori weaving as a hobby 

2017: Developed an interest in making bags from her own woven fabrics and approached Yoko Inoue, who was exhibiting bags at a handmade goods exhibition at the Shimonoseki Art Museum

2018: Following an exhibition at a handmade works show in Kitakyushu, began receiving requests from department stores and galleries; subsequently started holding exhibitions and sales events featuring two artists' works

2024: Held an exhibition at the Nippon Club Gallery in New York City, which was well-received.

2025: Held an exhibition and Sakiori workshop at AYUMI GALLERY in Kagurazaka.


Also opened a saki-ori class at home, spreading the craft to people of the same generation.


Yoko Inoue

1957: Born in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture

2015: Began making bags after participating in a sewing class at a craft store in Kitakyushu City

2017: Met Michiko Arikawa after exhibiting at a handmade goods exhibition at the Shimonoseki Art Museum

2018: Began holding joint exhibitions and sales events with Arikawa

2024: Held an exhibition at the Nippon Club Gallery in New York City, which was well-received

2025: Held an exhibition at AYUMI GALLERY in Kagurazaka


Continues creating new works using Arikawa's Sakiori fabric while holding exhibitions several times a year.
