About the work

A pair of Otogi-Inu that accompanies the hina dolls is one of the essential items found in a typical trousseau of Edo period. Featuring the face of a baby and the body of a dog in both male and female forms, they are good luck charms for safe and easy birth. As an additional incantation for an easy delivery, the Sukeroku Otogi-Inu has a hollow inside where the hina dolls can be kept safely until the Girls Day on March 3.
