Mikoshi are carried through neighborhoods during festivals (matsuri), in this case Asakusa’s Sanja Matsuri, one of the largest and oldest in Tokyo. Each piece of this figurine has been hand formed from clay before put together, a process that requires highly skilled craftsmen.
