The Essence of Bamboo

2020
Canvas, acrylic paint, white stone, Sumi ink
28.62 x 23.85 in

About the work

"Bamboo" is strong, supple, and beautiful. I depicted its vitality. The cat shining in the green in the center was drawn on top of the suppleness, beauty, and bamboo spirit. Each cell is likened to a "flower," and "the joy of living" is expressed by drawing with prayer. I depicted the joy of being a beauty that leads to all things. I experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake. The impact of the earthquake has changed the style of painting and the state of mind. Praying for reconstruction, I began to draw works on the themes of "joy of living" and "life." I will continue to disseminate activities that will energize the affected areas and give them "dreams and hopes" both in Japan and overseas.
