Art Deco ceramics often provoke people’s desire to buy because of their vivid colors and lustrous rainbow-colored glossy finishes. Although Art Deco ceramics have an image of bright colors, it’s mostly because such vivid colors as red and green were often used, and many pieces were frequently coated in glittering lusterware. Many were also used for such daily necessities as salt and pepper shakers and tableware. This particular piece was designed exclusively for use with asparagus and to channel away any moisture that might seep out of the boiled asparagus. In a way, this brightly colored asparagus serving plate seems to symbolize the arrival of spring after the end of a long winter.
