About the work
[Inscription] M-JAPAN
[Year of Manufacture] 1921 –1941 (approx.)
According to the Kottler Collection, the most impressive works of the Art Deco period were produced between 1922 and 1929 and were characterized by a wide diversity of shapes and surface decorations. These pieces were bright and dynamic and utilized an extensive range of motifs, such as complementary overglazing, lustrous coloring, hand painting, and intensely asymmetrical arrangements. This piece is a typical example of the cottage design featuring a cottage, river, sky, and birds. It was featured on the front cover of the publication created for Kottler when his collection was exhibited for the first time, and its design can be said to be one of those most loved by Kottler himself.
