Among the many items Japan exported to the United States were what were called “makeup sets.” Designed to be placed on a makeup table, this particular set’s pair of candle stands, puff box, and cream cases were placed on a similarly colored tray. Although antique shops might sell these as individual pieces, this is a rare complete set of such makeup table items. The highly expressive face of the Deco Lady was painted using a unique lusterware technique, and it provides a reminder of the daily lives lived by the women of the time.
