About the work

[Inscription] Created by GENROKU

[Year of Manufacture and Artist’s Name] The Meiji – Taisho Eras / TOMINAGA Genroku

Genroku Ware is porcelain created by TOMINAGA Genroku (1859 – 1920) in Uchinoyama Village of Ureshino-chō Geshuku, located in Karatsu County, Saga Prefecture. Uchinoyama was a ceramic-producing industrial region that has continued producing earthenware, and later porcelains, since the early Edo Era. Although the subtle design of this piece is reminiscent of an ink painting and is not as bright and colorful as many other products made for export, its brushwork remains exceedingly beautiful.
