The name ”Coralene” was created because of its textural resemblance to coral. Coralene ware was produced for about ten years in Japan, starting in 1910. The most common designs used in Colene ware were such themes as flowers and floral arrangements, which were representative of the then-current Art Nouveau period and could be seen on many Coralene pieces. In many cases, glass beads were attached to parts of flowers that became centerpieces of the design and its surrounding flowers and leaves. This technique emphasized certain parts by making them stand out most conspicuously with beading or raised decorations.
