About the work
[Inscription] Maple Leaf Mark
[Year of Manufacture] 1891 – 1915 (approx.)
The composition of this piece, created with the extensive use of the raised high relief technique, depicts a blue sea and a gray-colored eagle perched on a rock among the waves. The contrast between the brown color of the raised eagle and the blue color of the sea is elegant. Although eagles have been painted on many works of art as a symbol of bravery in Western countries and Japan, this eagle was created with the most exquisite and high-relief craftsmanship, making this vase a masterpiece that would be difficult to reproduce in the present day.
