About the work

[Inscription] Dainippon Ikemon Sei

[Year of Manufacture and Artist’s name] The late Meiji Era / Katō Mon’emon VI

Katō Mon’emon VI (1853 – 1911), the second son of Katō Mon’emon IV, became the sixth of seven successors operating the Kanjōen-Ikemon workshop, which produced ceramics in Seto, Aichi Prefecture. His blue-and-white porcelains are easily distinguished from other Seto wares by the particular beauty of their contrasting colors.
